Albinism Clinic June 2025
“The three-day skin health campaign (12th to 14th, June 2025), held at the Military Hospital in Bujumbura (Burundi), provided dermatology consultations to 218 persons with albinism from Bujumbura Mairie, Bujumbura Rural and Bubanza. Activities included extensive health education on photoprotection and skin cancer prevention, liquid nitrogen treatment for numerous precancerous lesions (not quantified), and one biopsy for an inoperable tumor referred for chemotherapy. In addition, three surgical procedures under local anesthesia were performed, and three patients were referred for surgery under general anesthesia for complex facial tumors. We were 4 dermatologists from Burundi and 2 from the RDTC in Tanzania (Prof Daudi Mavura, dermatosurgeon, Prof Ousman Faye, dermatopathologist), the campaign also distributed sunscreen to all participants.” – Dr. Doriane Sabushimike
